Fort Mountain State Park
Today I want to talk about one of my top favorite state parks that I have visited, so far that is! Located in Chatsworth, GA this park is a well to see spot if you are ever in Northern mountains. Now let me present to you, none other than Fort Mountain State Park!
If you have been following me for some time or are a newcomer (welcome!) then I want to say I don't love every park I visit. Some are great while others, there is more to be desired. For this park today, I genuinely enjoy going to visit and have done so several times now!
What I like about this park in particular is that everything is well marked and spaced out well. What I mean by that is that you don't feel like you and every other visitor are atop one another. For example, Stone Mountain located in Atlanta, that hiking trail to the top is instance. You are rarely ever alone and it is very crowded no matter the time of year. This state park is away from the city hustle and bustle which allows you to decompress.
Fort Mountain also has several different options for families, fur babes, and friends. There is swimming, fishing, camping, hiking, the list goes on and on. Since I usually am doing these trips as a single day visit, I usually am focusing on the hiking aspect. I will say I have stopped by the giftshop, the Historic Tower, and visited the "beach," on property and enjoyed it!

Let's talk about the hiking trails themselves. I've visited a few times now and I have completed the: Big Rock, Cool Springs Overlook, and the Lake Trails. I would say out of those three, the Cool Springs Overlook has been the most rewarding so far. The overlook is gorgeous and I loved sitting out there and soaking up the sun. Watch your step though, since it is very rocky along the way!
For me what draws me the most though to this state park is the history of the place. Almost at every stop along the way you will see a plaque steeped in detailed information. From the Cherokee Indians to the mysterious "wall," on site, there are many topics to discover. For more information on this state park, please click here.
Well that's all I have for Fort Mountain State park located in Chatsworth, GA. If you are ever getting the urge to go explore the mountains of Georgia I would recommend you check this place out! If you want to see my hiking on this trail, please click here.
